How to extract frames from a video

  1. Choose a video file.
  2. Set Columns and Rows; their product is the number of frames.
  3. Keep Also export each frame on and pick PNG or JPEG under Image format.
  4. Select Generate sheet, then download the frames one by one or as a ZIP.

Worked example

With 4 columns and 4 rows, a 170-second video gives 16 frames taken every 10 seconds, from 0:10 to 2:40. Each is saved as its own PNG with its time in the file name, and the contact sheet is offered too.

  • At most 360 frames per run.

Questions

How are the frame times chosen?

Frames are evenly spaced: the video's length is split into one more interval than the number of frames. 16 frames from a 170-second video are taken every 10 seconds, from 0:10 to 2:40.

What size are the frames?

The thumbnail width you set, up to 960 px, with the height following the video's shape. Frames are scaled from the video, so a 4K video still gives frames 960 px wide.

Can I get every single frame?

No. Columns times rows sets the count, up to 12 by 30, which is 360 frames per run.
