How to use
- Choose sources (system or tab audio, microphone, webcam overlay), the format, frame rate and quality.
- Press Start, pick what to share in the browser dialog, and wait for the 3-second countdown. Pause and resume as needed.
- Stop, play it back and download, or convert a WebM recording to MP4.
Worked example
At the Standard setting (2.5 Mb/s target), a 10-minute recording comes to about 190 MB (2.5 Mb/s × 600 s ÷ 8); mostly static screens usually come out smaller.
Supported formats and limits
| Input | Screen, window or tab, Webcam, Microphone |
|---|---|
| Output | WebM (VP9 or VP8 with Opus), MP4 where the browser records it, MP4 (H.264/AAC) by converting afterwards |
| Limits | Screen capture is not available on most phones. The recording is held in memory until you download it. |
| Engine | getDisplayMedia + getUserMedia → Web Audio mixing and (with a webcam) a canvas compositor → MediaRecorder; WebM is remuxed with Mediabunny to add a seek index |
Limitations
- System audio capture is only offered when sharing a tab in Chromium browsers, or a screen on Windows and ChromeOS.
- Recording stops if you close the tab or stop sharing.
- With the webcam overlay, frames are composited in this tab; browsers that slow background tabs can make that recording choppy.
Questions
Can it record system sound?
Only where the browser offers it: when sharing a tab in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge), or a whole screen on Windows and ChromeOS. The microphone is mixed in when both are on.
How big will the recording be?
About 19 MB per minute at Standard (2.5 Mb/s), 7.5 MB at Small and 45 MB at High. Mostly static screens usually come out smaller.
Does it work on a phone?
Mostly not. Screen capture is not available in most mobile browsers.
