How to use
- Open a fillable PDF; all detected fields are listed with their pages.
- Fill in fields. The preview updates as you type.
- Download, choosing whether to flatten (make fields non-editable).
Worked example
The sample membership form has 8 fields on 2 pages (text, multi-line text, a dropdown, radio buttons, a multi-select list and a checkbox). Filled and flattened, its values become page text that prints the same in every viewer.
Supported formats and limits
| Input | PDF with AcroForm fields |
|---|---|
| Output | Filled PDF, Flattened PDF |
| Limits | Up to 50 MB. |
| Engine | pdf-lib AcroForm API; pdf.js preview |
Limitations
- XFA (dynamic) forms are not supported. Forms that contain both XFA and normal fields are filled through the normal fields and the XFA part is removed.
- Signature fields and push buttons cannot be filled here; JavaScript calculations in forms do not run.
- For forms without fields, use the annotation tool to add text instead.
Questions
What does flattening do?
It turns the filled values into page text, so the form prints and displays the same in every viewer. The fields can no longer be edited afterwards, so keep an unflattened copy if you might change them.
Why can't I fill my PDF?
Only forms with real fields (AcroForm) can be filled. XFA dynamic forms are not supported, signature fields and buttons cannot be filled, and form JavaScript does not run. For a PDF without fields, add text with the annotation tool.
