How to convert hex to text
- Paste the hex digits.
- Keep Encoding on Hex and Direction on Decode.
- Read the text in the output, or download it if it is binary.
- Copy the result.
Worked example
48 65 6c 6c 6f decodes to Hello, and 68 c3 a9 6c 6c 6f decodes to héllo, because c3 a9 is the two-byte UTF-8 form of é.
Formats and limits
| Input | Hex |
|---|---|
| Output | Text, File |
| Engine | TextEncoder/TextDecoder with strict validation |
Limitations
- An odd number of hex digits is an error, because every byte needs two.
- Text is decoded as UTF-8 only; other character sets are not offered.
- Any character that is not a hex digit or a separator stops decoding, and its position is shown.
Questions
Which hex formats can I paste?
Plain digits (48656c6c6f), bytes separated by spaces, colons, commas or hyphens, and bytes written with 0x or \x prefixes.
What if the bytes are not text?
If they are not valid UTF-8, the tool says so and offers them as a file to download, naming the type when it recognizes one, such as PNG.
Can I convert text to hex?
Yes. Switch Direction to Encode; you can choose a byte separator and uppercase.
