How to convert CSV to JSON
- Choose a CSV file (TSV and Excel workbooks work too).
- Keep Output format on JSON and pick a JSON shape.
- Select Convert.
- Download the JSON file.
Worked example
The CSV id,name, zip, active with the row 1,Li,0150,true becomes [{"id":1,"name":"Li","zip":"0150","active":true}]: the ID and the boolean are typed, and the ZIP code keeps its leading zero.
Formats and limits
| Input | CSV, TSV, XLSX, XLS, ODS |
|---|---|
| Output | JSON, JSON Lines |
| Limits | Up to 100 MB. |
| Engine | SheetJS Community Edition + Papa Parse; dot-path flattening for nested JSON |
Limitations
- The first row is used as the header when it looks like one; set it explicitly if detection guesses wrong.
- Very large files produce large JSON; JSON Lines is easier to stream.
- Up to 100 MB per file.
Questions
Why does a ZIP code stay in quotes?
Values with leading zeros, such as 0150, and numbers longer than 15 digits always stay strings, so nothing is lost in conversion.
Can I get one object per line?
Yes. Set JSON shape to JSON Lines for a .jsonl file, or to Array of arrays for a header row followed by value rows.
Is my CSV uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
