Questions

Why does a key not register?

Some keys never reach the browser. Fn, many media keys and operating-system shortcuts are handled by the keyboard or the system first. A key that does not light up may be faulty, or may simply be intercepted, so try it in another app before concluding.

What do code, key and location mean?

code is the physical key (ShiftLeft), key is the character or name it produces with your layout (Shift), and location separates left, right and numpad copies. Left Shift reports code ShiftLeft, key Shift, location 1.

How do I leave the test area?

Press Escape three times. While the area is focused it captures keys such as Tab so they can be tested. Keystrokes are not stored or sent anywhere.
